MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 29, 2010) - White van men are considered to be among the safest drivers on the roads, according to a survey by Swinton Commercial.
A survey of 1,000 motorists by the van insurance retailer revealed that 43% of motorists found van drivers more courteous than other vehicle users on UK roads.
Lorry drivers came out second best with 19%, while car drivers came bottom with only 7% of the votes.
Around two-thirds of those polled believed 'school-run" parents were the most impatient drivers. Older and new drivers were deemed most dangerous, while commercial drivers were voted most likely to adhere to speed limits.
Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton Commercial said: "Despite their reputation among women as 'cheeky white van men', van drivers are often more careful on the roads, because their vehicles are clearly branded advertising their company.
"White van drivers operate their vehicles for a living, so they are often safer and more considerate than other motorists and our research reinforces this.
"However it's vital that all van drivers refresh themselves with the Highway Code and speed limits regularly, as this can help to reduce accidents and keep van insurance premiums to a minimum."
